Flower Of The North

about

This is the first original track the band wrote after starting off as a cover band. The song is about a concert that took place in Toronto, Ontario Canada, where a fiddle player from the opening band caught the attention of a member of The What? through her playing. The sound of that fiddle was never forgotten. Years later that fiddle player, Fleur from Nova Scotia, became the Flower Of The North. Her music lives on.

lyrics

On a snowy winter evening
In a dark and lonely bar
You appear from nowhere
And I wonder who you are

The music sounds like thunder
The lights are bright as flame
You shine above it all
And I want to know your name

Hey flower of the north
Can you come out to play
Like the music of the ocean wind
That never fades away

Hey flower of the north
When did you learn to fly
I’ll always hear you playing
Underneath the warming springtime sky

The music and the lights went out
The stage was quickly cleared
Sadly you were somehow gone
As fast as you appeared

But you will always be there
Watching from above
Bringing me together
With the music that I love

Hey flower of the north
Can you come out to play
Like the music of the ocean wind
That never fades away

Hey flower of the north
When did you learn how to fly
I’ll always hear you playing
Underneath the warming springtime sky

Take me back to that lonely bar
Between a Queen and King
I want to see you on the stage
I want to hear you sing

Hey flower of the north
Can you come out to play
Like the music of the ocean wind
That never fades away

Hey flower of the north
When did you learn to fly
I’ll always hear you play
Underneath the warming springtime sky

Hey flower of the north
Can you come out to play
Like the music of the ocean wind
That never fades away

Hey flower of the north
When did you learn how to fly
I’ll always hear you playing
Underneath the Nova Scotia sky
