about

You're Still Alive is a track that was written in early 2020, and started as an anti-bullying song. The song remained as a demo recording through most of the year, as Covid prevented the band from going to the studio and recording a final version. The events of the summer of 2020, with the police brutality and the Black Lives Matter movement, changed the focus of the song. Two words were changed and the song became a song about police brutality from the victims' point of view.
This track was another collaboration. The chord progression and lyrics were written by the bass player, and vocalist, from The What? The song needed a melody and a bridge. Kireina Michan and her friend Mark White (formerly of the Australian band Serious Young Insects) helped to finish the track. The final version of the song had one writer from the US, one from Spain and one from Australia. It was recorded partially in Pennsylvania and partially in Tokyo, Japan. The song got to travel the world prior to its release.

lyrics

Walking through the streets with your head held high
You’re looking at me and I’m wondering why
You have your friends and they’re always around
I try to go by without making a sound

You’re still alive
Breathing in the air
You’re still alive
You didn’t even care
You’re still alive

Threatening people, when you wear the blue
It’s all in good fun, no harm in what you do
You might get a laugh or a pat on the back
It’s all just some fuel for another attack

You’re still alive
Breathing in the air
You’re still alive
You didn’t even care
You’re still alive

Bridge
Where are you now
Have you grown up at all
Your victims will live
And the mighty will fall

You’re still alive
Breathing in the air
You’re still alive
You didn’t even care
You’re still alive
